ENGINEERINGResearch and development are very important at New Lachaussée. Upstream the machine design, engineering at New Lachaussée involves research on strength of materials, physical and chemical properties of metals and alloys, and constant analysis of client feedback. Cold forming simulationsUsing state-of-the-art software, our mechanical designers simulate the operation of the tool during a press cycle, for detailed analysis of the metal deformation and temperature variation. Among others, they calculate the forces required for the press and tooling. They also design the right chilling circuits.Stamping tool of a vertical pressThe brass strip passes between the upper tool block (featuring punches) and lower tool block (holding dies)press to zoomSimulation of deformationThe simulation software shows the deformation of the element when it is stamped.press to zoomSimulation of temperature variationThe simulation software shows the temperature variation of the element when it is stamped.press to zoomSimulationsMetallographyUsing fine metallography techniques, our engineers analyze the grain size of metals and alloys, as well as the distribution of particles. This helps in the definition and verification of annealing processes and subsequent treatments.Case specimensA sample of cases is reserved for quality inspection. Specimens are prepared (polished and etched) to be examined with a microscope.press to zoomBrass micro-structure (50x)This is not a beautiful close-up of the Sun, but the micro-structure of a case bottom after annealing, seen under a LEM microscope with a magnification of 50x.press to zoomBrass micro-structure (200x)Micro-structure of a case, seen under a LEM microscope with a magnification of 200x. The grains are smaller and tight at the periphery, which weakens the surface. Proper treatment is pickling.press to zoomPresses for any metal elementNew Lachaussée welcomes the challenge. Relying on the large experience of our design office, we also engineer high-output presses, of all sizes, to produce all kinds of elements other than ammunition or detonators: lipstick cases, lighter heads, rivets, airbag parts...
